Speed Test Recommendations
To achieve accurate speed test results, tests should be conducted over an Ethernet connection with Wi-Fi disabled to ensure there is only one device connected to the modem. Other devices on the network could be consuming bandwidth, therefore affecting the speed test results.
If Ethernet is not available, 5GHz Wi-Fi next to the modem is almost as good. Again, try to ensure no other devices are connected during the test.
Tests using 2.4GHz Wi-Fi usually cap out at 30-50Mbps as it is an older protocol. Also 2.4GHz Wi-Fi is more susceptible to interference from neighbouring networks, especially in units.
Another thing to note is that not all speed test sites are the same. Many sites underperform and therefore provide results that are much lower than the actual speed. We use and recommend Ookla (embedded below) as it consistently gives accurate results based on comparison with modem DSL sync rates.
